East Midlands Youth Jazz Orchestra |
I am proud to be the Musical Director for the East Midlands Youth Jazz Orchestra. This outstanding organisation is governed by a committee and are continuing to go from strength to strength. There are currently 3 jazz orchestras and a Saturday Jazz School with the level of musicians ranging from grade 3/4 through to degree standard. There is no set age limit and we have a policy of inclusion. We regularly invite guest musicians to perform with the band and run a summer school with outstanding jazz artists in residence. Some of our more recent guests include Alan Barnes, Alex Wilson, Claude Deppa, Andy Scott, Pete Long, and Mark Nightingale. EMYJO received a four star review in the Guardian newspaper for a gig with Mark Nightingale -this can be found at the official EMYJO website www.emyjo.co.uk.The culmination of our success was when we appeared at the Annual Conference of the International Association of Jazz Educators in Long Beach California last January. We were one of only 12 bands from around the world invited to go and we received a unanimous standing ovation. Since then we have been invited to the Wigan International Jazz Festival, Cleethorpes Beachcomber Festival and Derby Jazz Festival. We welcome new members and are especially keen to involve young trombonists and rhythm musicians. If you would like to book EMYJO or require further info please go to the contacts page.
